Hello 50 and hello middle age!
There are so many benefits to being 50, so celebrate it!
By now you should have a well-deserved, high level of confidence in yourself and your abilities. You have been places, done things, and been through experiences the 30-year old “kids” haven’t!
You deserve to “treat yourself” more often! But you also need to make sure that you are financially secure with a healthy amount of independence.
Below are 50 things every woman should have by the age of 50.
.) An outfit that makes you feel GORGEOUS! Something that makes you smile when you look in the mirror.
.) One or two GOOD friends whom you trust explicitly. You can freely laugh with them, cry with them, and complain to them. (Yes, family members count.)
.) A few incredibly juicy stories to tell people in your old age. The kind that make you cringe and laugh at the same time!
.) A bank account that nobody has access to but you. Guilt-free and private because you deserve it.
.) An updated bucket list! Perhaps you don’t dream of bungee jumping in the Alps anymore. But you still have some daring dreams and goals to accomplish!
.) Some lady-size tools: a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, a hammer and a few nails, a measuring tape, and a small level.
.) One delicious, go-to recipe that even the fussiest of guests approve of!
.) A few different pairs of Spanx that fit like a glove and aren’t too tight! (One for a dress and one for pants.)
.) A killer skin-care regimen! (It must include retinol, eye cream, exfoliation, and some delightful serums.)
.) A piece of furniture that you bought just for you! It makes you happy to look at it and even more happy to sit back and relax in it!
.) Some lovely lingerie that you are not ashamed to be seen wearing! Don’t be ashamed of your 50-year old beauty.
.) The knowledge of how to break-up with a man or confront a friend with grace – not losing your temper, not being walked over, being empathetic when necessary, and standing up for what you know is best for your life.
.) The knowledge and deep belief that you are worthy of being treated with dignity and respect.
.) A therapist you can call when/if things go wrong! Life is full of periods of grief, pain, anxiety, and doubt. Having someone to talk to and get advice from can make a huge difference.
.) The ability to let go of the deep pain from your childhood. (See #14)
.) An outfit that makes you feel cozy and safe. It’s OK if it’s flannel pajamas!
.) A full knowledge of your household finances. If your spouse is in charge of the finances, get involved! It’s important for you to know how to handle everything on your own if necessary.
.) A secret that you have kept for yourself that always makes you smile.
.) Something outrageously expensive that you bought for yourself – because you deserve it and it makes you very happy.
.) A full knowledge of your family’s medical history. You need to be taking care of yourself and taking preventative measures to stay healthy!
.) The memory of a kiss so powerful that it still makes your heart flutter!
.) A place that is yours that you can go to relax, think, and be alone.
.) The memory of an old flame that makes you proud of the life you lived without them – because they would have ruined your life!
.) The knowledge of what you are willing and able to accept in a relationship – friends, family, and love life.
.) A piece of jewelry that makes you smile because it has a special memory attached to it.
.) A soundtrack that instantly lifts your spirits the moment it starts playing!
.) The ability to say, “No” without feeling guilty or second-guessing yourself.
.) The pursuit of a hobby that you’ve always wanted to try, but never got around to.
.) A passport – so you can run away on vacation wherever and whenever you want!
.) A trusted financial adviser that patiently answers all of your questions and makes you feel secure in your future.
.) The ability to look in the mirror and love what you look like! Those wrinkles, bumps, sags, and ripples have been earned!
.) A hairstyle that you absolutely love! (Don’t be afraid to experiment.)
.) An older woman who you respect and admire – someone you want to be like when you’re older.
.) A strong spiritual life that nourishes your soul and instills a sense of hope for the future.
.) Something you do that is just for you and absolutely no one else
.) A missing piece of your heart from losing someone you loved deeply.
.) The habit of finding pleasure in doing generous things for people who cannot repay your kindness.
.) A nice collection of cards that you can write “thank-you” notes or “just because” notes to people you care about.
.) A monthly splurge day – maybe a mani/pedi, massage, or facial.
.) Enough money to your name to be able to run away if you ever have to.
.) A celebration with friends for no reason other than to celebrate each other!

.) A person that you can call any time of the day or night.

.) A to-do list that get’s you out of bed in the morning!
.) A memory that makes you cringe – because you learned so much from those crazy, stupid, immature mistakes!
.) An exercise routine that keeps you active & healthy and guarantees that you will stay mobile for the next 50+ years.
.) Some money set aside for your little “guilty pleasures”.
.) The understanding that 50 doesn’t make you old – not even close! You’ve got your whole life ahead of you, so live like it!
